Tamil Nadu State government was taking steps to provide additional welfare assistance to farmer producers’ companies that had more women members, said S.J. Chiru, Principal Secretary/Commissioner, Directorate of Agricultural Marketing and Agri Business. Inaugurating a traditional seed festival and a minor millets value addition unit here, Mr. Chiru said the State accounted for a total of 470 farmer producers’ companies of which 100 came under agri business. Financial assistance of Rs. 1.18 crore had been given by the State government to the Pudukottai Organic Farmer Producers’ Company, which had set up the minor millets value addition unit. The company was among the 10 top ones in the State. Several welfare assistance was being given through the Directorate of Agricultural Marketing to farm committees of agriculturalists, he added. Pudukottai District Collector S. Ganesh, Dhanapathy, director, Pudukottai Organic Farmer Producers’ Company and agriculture department officials participated.
