‘Second Summer’ soon to set in over the states of Rajasthan and Gujarat

Second Sum

At present East Rajasthan has received normal rainfall with a 4% surplus but the regions of West Rajasthan, Gujarat and Saurashtra & Kutch are all rain deficient. West Rajasthan is deficient by 23%, Saurashtra & Kutch region are even more deficient at -33%. East Rajasthan received good rains between September 21 and 23, due to the Well-Marked Low-Pressure Area which travelled from central parts of the country to Southeast Rajasthan, which later weakened into a Low-Pressure Area and moved over Haryana across East Rajasthan. Currently, dry Northwest winds have set-in over Rajasthan and in a couple of days we can expect formulation of an Anti-Cyclone over the state. Due to this, we can expect dry weather conditions to continue over Rajasthan and Gujarat. Moreover, withdrawal of Monsoon may also commence from West Rajasthan. At present, day temperatures are near normal over both the states and minimums are marginally below normal. In the next few days, the day temperatures will start rising leading to hot weather conditions over Western parts of Rajasthan and Gujarat. During the month of October, sky of Rajasthan and Gujarat usually remains clear and temperatures tend to increase. Variation between maximum and minimum also increases. The month of October is termed as ‘second summer’ for these states. So, we do not expect any rain activities over both the states in the next 8-10 days.
