Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has entered into an agreement with Sattva Seeds Pvt Limited, a Raipur (Chhattisgarh) based seed company, for licensing of CH-27 (chilli hybrid) and PPH 1 (pumpkin hybrid). The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by PAU research director Navtej Singh Bains and Saurabh Rathi of Sattva Seeds Pvt. Ltd. Bains congratulated the proprietors for sharing the responsibility of disseminating the technologies developed by PAU.
Giving details, Ajmer Singh Dhatt, HoD vegetable science, said that chilli hybrid-27 developed by PAU is a high-yielding variety being widely accepted by farmers in the northwestern part of the country. He revealed that PPH-1 is extra-early in maturity and can be harvested after 45 days of transplanting. The bushy nature of the plant is suitable for high-density planting to get more returns. The mottled-green colour and small size of the fruit (800g) are highly liked by the consumer. SS Chahal, adjunct professor, Technology Marketing and IPR Cell, informed that PAU has signed 9 MoUs for CH-27 and 2 MoUs for PPH 1 with various companies across the nation.
Chahal added PAU has signed 167 MoUs and commercialized 39 technologies, including hybrid lines of mustard, chilli, brinjal and its varieties, biofertilizers, leaf colour chart, water-testing kit, products, apple cider, and other technologies. Salesh Jindal, assistant vegetable breeder, department of vegetable science, added that CH-27 is a high- yielding hybrid with multiple resistance to leaf curl virus, fruit rot and root knot nematodes.
