The Agriculture Department in Darrang district, with a view to encourage selected agri-farmers, has initiated the distribution of seeds and saplings of different crops District Agriculture Officer (DAO) Nila Kanta Deka, accompanied by Subdivision Horticulture Officer Iftikhar Ahmed Nuri, distributed a total of 10 quintals of onion seed produced, processed and distributed by National Horticultural Research and Development Foundation under the Government of India. Around 20 hectares of agriculture land of the district will be covered by this onion cultivation. On the other hand, the district horticulture wing of the Agriculture department has made a target for cultivation of Sweet Charlie Variety of strawberry in a total plot of 15 hectares of land. A total of 92,760 saplings will be distributed among selected 110 agri-entrepreneurs of the district. Subdivisional Horticulture Officer Iftikhar Ahmed Nuri on Monday afternoon, immediately after the receipt of the saplings, visited the strawberry growers and distributed the saplings. The agriculture department here also distributed seeds of water melon, papaya, capsicum, brinjal, broccoli, tomato, cabbage, pumpkin, cauliflower and chilli among the farmers of the district under Horticulture Mission for NE Himalayan Region Scheme-a flagship scheme of Government of India and under Rashtriya Krishi Vikash Yojana. Mediaperson Shrawan Jha was also present in the seed and sapling distribution function organized in the District Agriculture Office campus.
