The Centre gave the environmental clearance to the project, thus enabling the State government to go ahead with its concept of the first of its kind Pharma City. The much awaited Pharma City project, to come up at Kandukur in Maheshwaram of Ranga Reddy district, has finally got environmental clearance from the Centre. According to official sources, the Centre gave the environmental clearance to the project, thus enabling the State government to go ahead with its concept of the first of its kind Pharma City that will come up over an area of 19,333 acres. With plug-n-play facilities, the cluster is designed to become the jump-start platform for companies that make bulk drugs, fermentation products, synthetic drugs, intermediates, vitamins, vaccines, drug formulations, nutraceuticals, herbal products, specialty chemicals and cosmetics.
According to sources, about 5,000 to 6,000 acres land was acquired in the Rachakonda Police Commissionerate limits alone for the project. However, with protests during public hearings and environmental clearance from Delhi had remained major hurdles for the project, one of the flagship initiatives of the Telangana government. “We have handled all protest with due diligence in a democratic way leading to the final environmental clearance. We had facilitated the process of clearance and are feeling happy,” said Mahesh M Bhagwat, Rachakonda Police Commissioner, who confirmed that the project had got the clearance.
